Dental Care & Alzheimer’s Disease

May 17 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Community Presentation

Anna Marie Avola, DMD, MS  Dental Solutions for Adults & Seniors

Coping with the Oral Care of a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease

Originally from Boston, Dr. Avola received her dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where she immediately began her teaching career. Relocating to Naples, Florida in 1979, she opened a private dental office specializing in family and elderly care. As the Dental Consultant for Moorings Park Nursing Home, she opened an additional dental facility on their premises. After completing a Master’s Degree in Gerontology at Florida Gulf Coast University, she began teaching as an adjunct professor. As her love for education increased, she joined Hodges University in 2006 as a full time associate professor and chair of the medical assisting program.

Missing clinical practice, Dr. Avola began volunteering at the Senior Friendship center. It was then that she decided to combine her love for dentistry and her love of working with older patients by opening the first geriatric dental practice in Naples, Dental Solutions for Adult and Seniors. As she puts it, “We provide comprehensive dental care for the over 50 crowd”.
