Welcome to Naples Unites
Our organization exists to enrich the lives of people living with Alzheimer's and other forms of neurodegeneration and ease the lives of their care partners (caregivers).
Naples Unites was founded on the belief that people with brain change due to diseases like Alzheimer's should always be treated with: Understanding, Respect, Kindness, and Dignity.
The goal of Naples Unites is to expand the number of locations where someone with brain change can receive compassionate cognitive care. Often when individuals receive a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, their world shrinks. Naples Unites exists to help ensure people with cognitive changes are involved in the communities in which they live and are able to contribute in ways that provide purpose and meaning for themselves and society.
Who We Work With
People Living With Brain Change
What role do you, as a person living with brain change, play in making Naples Unites successful?
We Want to Know
Depending on what you want to do, there are a couple of different ways you can help us. First, be tuned in when you are going to different businesses in Naples.
- How are they treating you?
- Do you feel welcomed and comfortable talking to the employees, asking questions or just finding your way around?
- Or do you feel overwhelmed, over-stimulated, rushed, or in any other way unwelcome?
The Goal
Our goal is to have every business in Naples be one where people living with brain change and their families are welcomed and made to feel that they belong—just like everyone else.
We want to honor and award those businesses that are already doing a good job and we want to learn what makes them successful. We also want to help the businesses that are not quite there so that they can also be a place where you will be welcomed and treated with compassion.
Businesses
Why should my business want to be a part of Naples Unites? Why wouldn’t you?
What Can I Do As A Business?
Display the Naples Unites Logo. We ask that you display the Naples Unites logo in your storefront window or use the counter top display that we will provide you. Much like the Yellow Ribbon is a symbol of support for the troops, displaying the Naples Unites logo shows your commitment to the goal of the program. Together we will make Naples a truly Cognitively Kind Community.
What Does It Cost?
Did we mention it costs nothing to become a Naples Unites site? This is a free program designed and offered by the Alzheimer’s Support Network, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides all programs and services free of charge. The Alzheimer’s Support Network was founded in Naples Florida in 1982 and is committed to providing quality care for those with Alzheimer’s and related diseases and their care partners (caregivers).
Volunteers
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Almost always they have been touched by Alzheimer’s in some way–caring for a spouse, a parent, or someone else they cared deeply for.
We Need Your Help
One way to help involves little more than what you’re already doing just living day to day in Naples. Every time you frequent a business, say a restaurant, retail store, personal service, etc. think about how you were treated–especially if you go there with someone living with brain change. How were you treated? Lots of our families tell us about the outstanding way they have been treated and want to honor that business for being welcoming to people with brain change. We then prepare and frame a certificate honoring that business, which is then presented by the volunteer or our staff. We invite that business to be part of Naples Unites and they are given the seal and the certificate.
Become a Buddy
Another way to volunteer is with a person living with brain change as a buddy at a Naples Unites Partner Site. Together, these volunteer buddy pairs do something that they find meaningful at an organization that has opened their doors and their hearts to providing purpose to people living with neurocognitive decline. This is more of a one-on-one relationship and gives the person living with brain change something to look forward to–spending time with a friend doing something they enjoy! If you would like to get involved in this way but are interested in volunteering somewhere that is not yet a partner site, please let us know and we will reach out to them.
